Welcome to Living Montessori Academy
“And so we discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being. It is not acquired by listening to words, but in virtue of experiences in which the child acts on his environment.” Dr. Maria Montessori

Overview
The Montessori classroom is a carefully prepared environment equipped with hands-on, purposeful apparatus that allows students the freedom to explore and experiment; to learn in a self-guided way with the guidance of their teacher. Our classrooms include various “learning centers” such as Practical Life, Sensorial, Language Arts, Math, Science and Botany, Social Studies, Geography, History, Art, Music, and Movement, all of which are designed to interrelate in the absorbent mind of the child. Science activities, for example, require students to access sensorial, math, critical thinking, problem solving, analytical, language and writing skills. Students freely explore the “works” designed to provide experiential learning that encourage them to utilize the resources in their environment.
Our Montessori classrooms offer a balance between group learning time by choice, quiet, individual work periods and classroom “democratic” meetings, as wells as time for reflection, digestion and response supporting the development of the whole child. At “work” time students may choose to interact with one another or invite others to work together as long as this does not interfere with other student’s work or prevent students from developing the capacity to concentrate. Peer to peer interaction on a daily basis fosters language development, more accurate interpretation of social cues, cooperative living practice and inner confidence.
