Additional Enrichment Studio programs

At Planet Kids we strive to nurture the growth of the entire child, by focusing on a more "whole-brained" orientation. We place equal weight on academics, the arts, music, creativity, and imagination. By allowing children to explore their talents and creativity in multiple environments, we can encourage and nurture a wide range of skills that are not restricted to traditional academics, creating a well-rounded and contented child.

Keyboard

Classes start by introducting students to the geography of the keyboard. They learn where high and low sounds are on the keyboard, and gradually build on their knowledge by learning the names of the keys, and finally by playing songs by reading notes on a staff!

Leadership

Classes are designed to focus on conflict resolution, negotiations skills, exploring and understanding ones feelings and developing skillful means of dealing with those feelings. We explore techniques and strategies to help calm ourselves when we get angry and frustrated, for example, to meet our needs in peaceful ways. As students gain skills and knowledge they will have the opportunities to apply the knowledge in games and role play that are designed to highlight different situations. The “Second Step” curriculum is used to further develop the skills of peaceful means of problem solving, critical thinking and developing authentic relationships.

Drawing

Classes are designed to develop fine motor skills in preparation for writing and steady hands to support freehand drawing and other artistic techniques, such as outlining and coloring. Themes are chosen based on the interest of the children. Each six-week session has a different theme. During the six weeks, the children will learn to draw various objects related to the current theme. At the end of the sessions, their finished drawings will be compiled into a book for them to take home and enjoy. Each successive session will build on the previously learned skills.
